Former footballer Clarke Carlisle has been announced as celebrity ambassador for Mind, which gives advice and support to empower people experiencing mental health problems.
Carlisle has spoken openly about his own depression and is now working with the charity to highlight new research, after a report found that athletes struggling with mental health problems may be afraid that asking for help could negatively affect their careers. Carlisle said 'There is a great appetite to address mental health issues within sport and things are improving, but the support for athletes is nowhere near adequate. I believe that football, and sport in general, can lead the way'.
